i bought a samsung 37" lcd in october 2007, just under 2 yrs ago, at a cost of £900 with stand and dvd player. JUst recently the picture started to go pink in places on. We rang Curry's and was told it was out of warrenty and to ring samsung. They told me i would have to take it to a samsung dealer so it could have a full report as a cost of £80. I would have to foot the bill for the repair and they might consider giving me 35% discount. I have had the reports back and the problem is the screen in which it will cost $600 repair.
If anyone can help me with consumer rights and it doesnt seem fair to fork out £600 for a manufacturing fault when a tv should last for years.

The retailer is responsible for the item for up to 6 years from purchase but after 6 months the onus is on you to prove there is an inherent manufacturing fault before they have to replace, repair or refund.

Well the SOGA should cover you, but you'll have to prove it's an inherant fault and possibly take currys to court to get anything done.
I'm not too good on the ins and outs but i'm sure somebody here will have a suitable letter saved on their computer.
that's why places like John Lewis are good, because you get a 5 year guarantee with the set which saves having to go the SOGA court route.0 -
If you get the report and send it to Currys customer services, they should be able to sort something out for you (assuming it says what it should).
I very much doubt you'll need to take Currys to courtSquirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
This happened with my boiler. Traiding standards were really helpful, telling me exactly how to word the letter. Or try CAB who are also good.
And PS, best to use Curries only to browse the goods, get an idea of what you want, but please don't buy anything from them. They refused to exchnge my £2.99 alarm clock, with a reciept, after 3 weeks as they said 'the stu-pid kid prob-ly broke it' as I was pushing him in his pushchair when I returned it. All the hands had fallen to the bottom. On principle I have never bought anything from them since and he is 24 now.Doing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me0 -
I think it's designed just like my old Washing machine, with its 5 year warranty that died just after the warranty ran out, they are specifically designed to go fudd just as the warranty expires
I am now looking for a "sod's law" insurance policy
