Hi we went to dom rep 3yrs ago and it was great...AI there is like nothing in the med, best holiday we have been on.
their currency is the dominiacn dollar but they accept US dollars too. We took both but it seemed best to take more US as we got more for our money with them, although we didnt spend that much.
In the north (we stayed at gran ventava, playa dorada) took a cable car up the mountain to a botaical garden which was a good day out. Also the waterfall trip...fab day where you climb 14 falls then jump back down them.
Also went paraglyding there.... NOT for the fainthearted!!!!!!!
We didnt book any trips with the reps as they were expensive..booked with recommended locals on the beach.
Have a fab time we did...the place and the people are great£900 towards next holiday...ta very much Mr T x0 -

I really wanted to go to the DR this year, but work commitments and my partner's tardiness have since ruined that plan :-( Grrh!
I noticed on thomson's website that they are offering a fortnight in north DR, leaving next Monday, on an All Inclusive board basis, hotel named on arrival, for £309 (excluding all the usual extras of fuel charges, transfers, in-flight meals, ticket collection on arrival, etc).
What a deal!"If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered."

Been to Dominican about 2 years ago (to playa dorada) and went in January this year (to baha minmion) both AI.
Think the place is brilliant and AI is fantastic, staff in the hotels are always smilling and happy, food is very nice and beer even nicer! Hotels are very clean and weather is fantastic! Really hot there in Jan, and only rained once at night.
One thing I would say is to try and get a visa from the dominican republic embassy before going, just saves on waiting after you land there. Also you need $20 (i think) departure tax.
Once you have been there you'll want to ga back again and again! which part are you going to?0 -
