Divorce - no kids (fortunately)

Although under the same roof, we have been living separate lives for a few years. Assuming we both agree to the financial split, can anyone tell me the steps we need to take to divorce with the minimum of fuss (and cost)?

Do the online Divorce sites actually help/work or just provide blank documents?

TIA

You can DIY by downloadingthe court documents and completing them.

If you don't want to download the forms, you can pick them up for free from your local court office. If you fill them in and do it all yourself, it will only cost you the statutory court fees.

Make sure you get a Financial Consent Order (or Clean Break Order) too. The divorce just ends the relationship, but you need the Financial Consent Order to break your financial relationship. If you don't get one, you can make a valid claim on each others finances in the future. You don't want the ex popping up demanding a share if you get a big inheritance, lottery win etc.!
Here I go again on my own....

The cheapest way of all, as others have said, is to download or go to your nearest court offices to ask for the necessary forms. The people at the court offices are very helpful and will tell you what to do and what order to do it in, but they cannot give you legal advice.

Next cheapest if you want a bit of hand holding through the process is an on line divorce company which should fill out the forms for you and are there at the end of the phone or email if you have any queries.

I used Divorce on Line which was helpful and relatively cheap, but there are lots of others.

    Hope this helps.
