Hotel Vila Ramos - Funchal, Madeira

Hi,

Has anyone stayed at this hotel? I'm thinking of booking it later tonight so any speedy replies would be very much appreciated.

Does anyone have any recommendations for other hotels in Funchal?

Thanks very much.

  • There should be some reviews of the hotel on Tripadvisor from people who've recently stayed there.

Thanks for your reply, Dora, (I would click the "thanks button" but there ain't one!).

I had a look at Tripadvisor where some of the reviews say the hotel is in need of renovation, so I wondered if anyone had been there recently.

I stayed at teh Monumental Lido, which was great - handy for most things and walkable in to the centre of Funchal. We stayed B&B and ther ewere a lot of decent restaurants nearby plus the Lido itself.

I have stayed at the Crowne Plaza, walking distance to Funchal (if you are not feeling lazy!) and it was lovely, very big corporate faceless hotel but plush, great service and an amazing lido. It was really lovely. Oohh.. If you drive past the Crowne Plaza on your left, just after it, down a long driveway there was a really sweet restaurant. Cheap and yummy, sitting outside by the sea. It was some years ago now (5-ish) but I would try going there again if I visited again.

Also, in Funchal there is a really sweet little cafe on a corner (that's helpful huh?) it's on a cross roads I think, and I think it had a name something to do with San Francisco. Sorry, all very cryptic, I just remember it being very nice.

The food was lovely everywhere, if you get a chance drive around the island, beautiful waterfalls and the drive feel a bit like a rollercoaster ;)

I want to go back now!

Thanks for your advice, reverie. Sounds like you had a great time. I booked the Vila Ramos in the end; I'll look out for the restaurant ... and the cafe on the corner!
