It's a great printer for someone who wants to print out high-quality photos but I only really use it for letters and colour websites and maps. It's costing me a fortune to run as it uses 5 cartridges totalling around £50 for a set.
There aren't compatible cartridges available and the Canon ones have a chip which knows how many pages it should cover and if you refill using other inks, it knows it has done more pages. It then disables the low-ink warning and voids the warranty.
Does anyone know of a colour inkjet which would suit my needs and is cheap to run? Thanks
Epson SX range, i personally have the sx200 3in1 printer. I can get 12 compatibles for around a £10-£11 look on ebay INKshop24, ink-power, each cartridge has approx 18ml of ink in, about 2.5times the proper epsons. printer itself was £45, but believe you can get it cheaper now.about £39. there are other models, and the compatibles also work with those aswell.0 -
Quick update: The cheapest chipped compatibles I've found so far for the IP4200/MP610 (and probably many others) are £2.99 each delivered free from 7DayShop.
Also, for anyone refilling their own Canon originals, the chip resetter sold here for £13.80 all-in may be worthwhile, just so that you don't have to keep visually checking the ink levels...0 -
You could try refilling the cartidges but if you prefer not so can I suggest the Canon Pixma iP2600 from the Canon Outlet Shop on eBay. I bought one recently for about £22 incl postage and it works much better than my previous Epson Stylus photo 915 and that cost about £140 6 years ago. The outlet shop sells refurbished goods but they all come with a Canon 12 months warranty so you lose nothing. The colour cartridge is a 3 in 1 type and you can buy compatibles from various outlets. I never buy manufacturers ink because of cost and I will try the refill method when the time comes. I'll update the results when available.:beer:0

My printer is an Epsom Stylus SX200, reasonably priced, using compatibles from Coastal Inks, £2.50 per cartridge or £9.50 for set of 4, post free, 100% guaranteed0

Sell old printer on ebay, buy new printer on ebay, should work out cheaper than ink carts.[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.

The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that[/redtitle](house of lords debate, talking about Cameron)0 -
