Have bought a Toshiba NB 100 -1100R Netbook from ebay but has only 512mb memory and also Linux Ubuntu S128 OS. Have done about as much research on internet as I can and so far think a 1gb DDR2 800mgh is the one???? Toshiba site says that 1gb is the max but doesn't say if the OS matters.
Anyone any ideas I'd be really grateful.

The Crucial checker is normally correct....

That says 2GB max which I think is much more likely than 1GB which is probably the maximum Toshiba sell it with.
Interestingly it says there are 2 slots either of which can take 2GB (or 1GB each presumably).
Any version of Windows or Linux will support 2GB.

Thank you Kwikbreaks. This is the site it says 1gb max but I may have got my wires crossed. Know nothing about techie stuff.

Also worried about OS, they say doesn't support a dongle and this is what my son intended to use as he has no landline. Is it easy to uninstall and install windows XP.

The latest Ubuntu has no problem supporting some of the mobile BB USB dongles. You need to research whether or not the one you have will work with the distro you intend to use.
Putting XP on a netbook may be trouble free or may not be - it depends on whether you can get drivers for the bits that are not supported natively. Either way it will cost money unless you get a hookey download that works properly with Windows update.
It will support 2GB for sure despite what it says there but you could always do what I have done with my netbook - buy a 1GB SODIMM and put it in the second slot. 1.5GB is plenty for what you'll do with a netbook - especially if you don't install XP.0 -
Thanks again guys.
Now think the ebay win, perhaps not such a good idea especially when you know nought about the things!
Wonder if I should keep the netbook and give him my old Acer Extensa 4220 and it'll be a lot less bother eg Dongle, Windows etc.
Could always put it back on e bay hmmmm.0 -
Stick the dongle in and see if it works.
Did it come with any recovery CD or DVD? The ad you pointed to shows it may have come with XP originally which the dongle software will have been designed to work on.0 -
Ih ave been using a dongle in mint and freeBSD recently, if you can do it in one up to date linux or *ix Os you can do it in them all.

Don't know if this link will work. It is new and unopened as it was an unwanted prize, so presume it should have everything.

I've used my own Vodafone dongle on Ubuntu but there is more than one sort of dongle and having one work doesn't mean they all will.
It may be that just doing a Ubuntu software update would make it work but then again it may not.

That ad says it is Ubuntu 8.04 which is quite old.0 -
OS should not matter.0
