just wondered if you have tried to record through one of the scarts - I was hoping to record Sky but can't seem to get it to work?
Thanks, Mark.
It will only record from the internal Freeview tuner. Just the same as any PVR will only record from it's internal source.
You will need a VCR, Sky+, HDD or DVD recorder to record Sky.0 -
Did you see how many they had got for sale ?
Do you know if this shop has a phone number ?
(can't find one on Yell.com etc)
Perhaps there is one on your receipt ?
I would say there were about 10 or so out on the shop floor - that was last Wednesday 29 Dec. The phone number of the store from my receipt is 01743 366667.
I bought the unit for my other half (wish I'd got one for myself as well now!). I think it might be a return as there are a couple of scratches on the front - though I'll try condyk's suggestion about the protective film! But it works perfectly and is very easy to use. ;D My other half is planning to get an aerial splitter and try connecting his existing freeview box to the TV using a scart box - which should apparently allow him to watch freeview whilst recording on the PVR.
Unfortunately I was only in Shrewsbury visiting relatives and am back home now so can't offer to pick up a PVR for anyone... :( no store here in Sheffield as far as I know.0 -

In case anyone is wondering why, I assume this is because it records the compressed MPEG data which is what is received by the Freeview tuner. Signals going into the SCART socket would be decoded, so the box would have to have an MPEG encoder - or it would be able to record very little onto the disk as the equivalent data rate of the decoded signal is much, much higher. MPEG encoders are expensive because there aren't many of them - unlike MPEG decoders, which are contained in every Freeview and Sky box, and DVD player.
Now if Sky boxes had an output of the MPEG data stream...Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0 -
Had stock at Birchwood yesterday - about five of them. But as per my luck, now up to £90 (having enquired, they said that they normally sell at the same price as Shrewsbury - they had undersold£ the item!________________________________________

I have had one since last summer. Great piece of kit.
I even have this output to a dvd writer for recording mpeg2 to dvd+rw. Great for keeping recordings or your treasured recordings
No longer a user, goodbye folks. PLEASE delete my account. Thank you0 -

bought one in birchwood yesterday afternoon.. they had about 12 when I was there.. so going fast.. was £90 which is still cheap!0 -
It's also worth considering that it is common for people to think the unit they buy is used and so complain/return them. The clear front panel has a very fine protective strip and so does the remote. Makes the front and the remote look used. These can easily be peeled off to reveal perfect finish!!
Mine had a couple of scratches on the front, took a closer look... indeed there was the fine protective film, peeled away and now scratch freeThanks condyk!

I agree it's "still cheap" but is it such a bargain when the item is likely to have been sold previously and therefore "second hand?"
I quote their policy "Try it for 30 days and if you are not completely satified with it, send it back for a refund." Lots do have return labels on them instore. £75 was a bargain to me, not £90 that's all.
BTW - bought an Atari gamestick for £4.99. Worth the journey then!________________________________________

There was a 15 % off everything except special offers last week.
So perhaps Shrewsbury knocked 15% of the £87 (Birchwood) price, which would make £75?
and Birchwood consider it a special offer.
Anyone tried bartering for two, or tried to get a reduction on a tatty box, that could be difficult to shift?
They had a LG 8x PC dvd recorder when I was last there for £87, when you can get a 16x dual layer one now for less than £50
ScatMoi....?
