hi all, i have a 2002 fiat stilo 1.2, owned it about 5 years and its about time for its 12k mile service and oil change.
its always done here (never taken to fiat) with parts from the local motor factor, they are a large chain up here. typically if i ask for spark plugs i get ngk, oil is comma, this is all stuff i have heard of.
are there any suppliers of better parts online for reasonable money or am i going to get the best value there already?

i also own a 2002 stilo and i just serviced it yesterday! I get parts from my local Oscotts and do the work myself. Its like a trade shop for anyone in the automotive business.
If you're doing a service and changing the oil make sure you change the oil filter too. You'll also need a large allen key for the sump plug as it isnt a conventional bolt like it is in most cars.
WIX make oil filters but i cant remember the part number for the one you'll need. You'll also want a 10-40 grade oil for a car of that age with 60k+ miles. Dont overfill!
Have a look to see if there are other motortraders in your area. If you're doing the work yourself typically an oil filter will cost £3-£4 for me, an air filter the same. I payed 11.23 for 5l of 10-40 synthetic oil.
Hope this helps a bit.MFW - <£90kAll other debts cleared thanks to the knowledge gained from this wonderful website and its users!0 -
my dad is an ex mechanic so he is bound to have one, i think it gets a new oil filter every service, and he never throws allen keys away
its a 43k mile 2002 model, was going to see how much oil is, i am sure its always had 10-40 oil, i know its semi synthetic, i have the manual at home but i am not there at the moment, whatever grade fiat says is what its been having, they recommend selenia but its only sold at fiat dealers to my knowledge and i am not going there with it.
i usually end up with change from £40 after buying 5 litres of oil (usually comma) 4 spark plugs (ngk or champion) and oil and air filters, sounds like i havent been doing too badly thenthings arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back thenMercilessKiller wrote: »BH is my best mate too, its ok

you havent been doing too badly with that price. I would say its £20 for the parts (excluding spark plugs). You dont need to replace the spark plugs that often though.
Your mileage is low so your vehicle is still holding alot of its value. If i would you i would continue with the fiat services as you can market the vehicle as FSH when you come to sell it. You could get a few hundred £ more having the full service history if its all in good condition with low mileage.MFW - <£90kAll other debts cleared thanks to the knowledge gained from this wonderful website and its users!0 -

it was a trade sale so the dealer sold it in the trade without the service history.
i have it valued on the insurance at £2300, i've seen higher mileage ones going for less but should anything happen to mine i can get another quite tidy car of a different model for that.
i bought it for £4800 5 years ago :eek:things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back thenMercilessKiller wrote: »BH is my best mate too, its ok
