Late electricity billing

Is there anything we can do? We have a country pub and when we took it over we didn't know who was supplying the electricty. We tried to find out and tried to get a bill with absolutely no joy, we have copy letters as proof and copy letters back from different suppliers saying no etc. 5 years on we get a bill for £10,000. Obviously we will have to pay a certain amount but I wonder if we have any room to argue for a discount etc as it took them so long to contact us despite our trying. I'd be grateful for any advice. Thanks

i have the same issue and have tried to implement the back billing code, but edf are saying it doesnt apply. The only difference is im a residential customer so this may not apply to u as you have a business.

Did you try writing your local distribution network operator at any time? They could have told you who your supplier is by referencing the meter number.
Were you dilligent about putting money aside every month in order to pay for the energy that you have been using for when a bill did come?It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0 -

None of the safeguards for domestic customers apply to business customers.
The 12 month back-billing code for domestic customers is when a bill hasn't been produced and the utility company are at fault.
If does not apply if someone moves into a property and doesn't contact the supplier. They, and not the company, are at fault.0
