ringing estate agents up for advice only?

Has anyone ever done this?
I know on property programs they say ro ring round agents if you're thinking of doing somewhere up to get a feel for what it would be worth and what people are looking for in the area, but has ayone actually ever done it?
I get the feeling they would either not really know or not be too keen to waste time talking to me if I am not buying or wanting them to sell the property for me.
is it worth rining?
thanks

my parents did this before doing work to their house - they were open with the agents and said they weren't interested in selling but wanted to know their view as to whether the work would add value. 2 agents were happy to come and give before and after valuations - basically because they wanted to increase their chance of acting as agent when my parents do eventually sell.
I suspect it probably depends on whether yours is the sort of property the agent would be keen to sell once done up.0 -
Let them know you'll be re-selling once the project is finished so will need an EA then. I'm sure they may show some interest then!0

I'd go and see them. If you ask an agent what sells well, then they should be able to see that if they give you a bit of time and you do it then they'll have a house they can sell more quickly than one that's not what people want. So you might like to point this out in your pre-amble.0

I did this when considering extending my house, they came around the later in the week and spent at least 30 mins in my house looking at it and giving me advice as to what sort of an extension it should be etc. (they want to be appointed at some some point in the future so it's good PRChuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0
