Another Boiler Question, sorry!

My boiler works fine so I'm a bit loathed to replace it but it's a 'back boiler' that's (obviousley?) behind my livingroom gas fire.

My problem is that the fire is hideous and the only alternative that will work with my boiler is a 'caravan' type of fire. (council jobby and they wouldn't spend the money to do it right!)

What I'd like to do is to remove the fire, hearth and surround but leave the boiler as is. Ideally I'd like the hole in the wall covered over (somehow) but understand that I'll need to leave an air vent and access to the boiler.

My question is... is this an option or am I stuck with the horrible fire???

Thanks :-*
