Natwest/RBS PPI claim

I have been discussing my ongoing attempt at trying to reclaim my PPI and other charges from Natwest in a thread on here in the 'Bank Charges' section. As my latest reply was for a PPI claim, it was suggested I re-post here instead.

"OK so it's been a while while I've been waiting for the RBS and Natwest to get back to me.

Natwest, for some reason don't seem to think I ever had any charges applied to my account with them. Hmmmmm strange, and RBS have been very communicative in regards to their investigation of my claim.

I have recently received an outcome letter from them over my PPI claim. It states:-

" They are sorry to advise that they can't uphold my claim. That customers have a responsibility to ensure the concerns are raised within a reasonable period of time.

As my policy was sold on 23 October 1997, and it ended on 26 June 2002, and the significant time that has elapsed since I took out the policy, and the fact I have not raised any concerns before now, I am out of time in which to make a complaint, and they are therefore unable to complete an investigation.

I have also received regular credit card statements since the policy started, which clearly detailed the PPI, and if I was unhappy or believed it was mis-sold at the outset, it's reasonable to expect that I would have raised any concerns before now.

While they understand this is not the outcome I was hoping for, if I'm not satisfied I can refer the case to the FOS. However, it is the banks view that they would not be able to consider my complaint in view o the time that has elapsed since I became aware (or ought to reasonably have become aware) that I had cause for complaint. In exceptional circumstances they may waive the time limit rules. Please let us know if you think this could apply so that we may re-consider matters."

That just about sums up the reply they sent.

What should my next course of action be?"

    Hi there

    It seems they are giving you another opportunity to write back to them for them to reconsider, if you want to do this you can, or you do have the choice as well to take to the FOS, maybe give the FOS a ring and they will or should advise the best course of action.

    If you have anything further to tell the bank then write that in your letter, so you have a choice from here really, you can go either way.

    For FOS complaints, you can do this by downloading and printing off their website, or ring them to arrange then post you the form through the post, remember to enclose copies of correspondence and any copies of your evidence to support your complaint.
