new kitten

i picked up our new kitten yesterday she is 9 weeks old. wehave another cat who is 3years old.

the 3yr old cat doesn't seem very keen on the kitten and has growled at her a few times but seems mostly scared of her. the first night she wouldn;t come out from behind the tv.

untill recently we had another cat (who passed away) so she is used to another cat in the house. will the older cat accept the kitten in time? is there anything i can do to help them get along?

  • They get over it eventually. Especially if they come to associate kitty 2 with lots of lovely snacky treats.

Yeah they will get on, just give them a few weeks. I thought my 2yo cat would never tolerate the kitten, she is so aloof and miserable (well she is grey so always looks it haha) but now they are forever play fighting, licking each other and snoozing together. Though she still growls at him when he decides to bite her chunky butt (hoping that will be resolved when he has his dingledangles removed!)

Hi we have a 5 year old cat and we got a 7 week kitten a few months ago. Ar first the older cat didn't like him and would growl and hiss, the worst was the lashing out at him though..i felt awful like my older cat was upset as such and wondered if it was such a good idea at times!..i rung the cattery to inform her that we had another cat and would need another space when we are away and we discussed the behaviour..she said she guarunteed tey would be fine by then and they are! They quite happily play together and sleep snuggled in the same basket! they play fight quite a lot but you can tell the difference, sometimes we have to break them up as they go a little ott but in general they are fine!
We are trying the feeding together soon as they are seperate so not sure how that will go but we will see!

Good luck and im sure they will be fine.
