Problems with my laptop.

When I turn on my laptop I have a vertical white line down the screen about 2" in on the left hand side. I have to carefully move the screen backwards and forwards to get a anything on the screen. If I move the laptop the screen goes blank and I then have to try and get something back by moving the screen forward. This is not always successful.
Often I am left with just 6" gap so I then have to shut down and try again. As you can imagine it is not easy to do anything in such a small space.
The laptop is 8 months old.
Any ideas please.

Thank you I go and hunt out the receipt.
I only use it for the internet ,email and storing photos but finding this a real problem.
Would you say it was a hardware problem?
I really am a dumb about pcs.Be Lucky Everyone0 -
does sound like a hw issue...try and back up any stuff before you take it in for repair. You didn't get it from pcworld, did you ?? if so, MAKE SURE you back up all photos, music, documents, etc., they're notorious for wiping hdd without just cause

Thanks again.
My OH bought me it for Xmas from PC World so thanks for the tip.Be Lucky Everyone0 -
also make sure you don't take bull from PC world they are also notorious for saying its nothing to do with them and you should contact that manufacture, If they do try it on say you know your rights and then later report them to trading standards. As its under a year I think they are less likely to try it but still be nice and go prepared.
I used to work in a supermarket and the things people tried to do to rip off the store, A sealed box saying they bought a lawn mower, got the reciept and everything, wanting their money back. Open it up and its full of spuds. So where as I have no sypathy for staff trying to pass the buck, they also do get some wackos with some schemesSurvey earnings total 2009 £417, 2010 £875, 2011 £5740 -

I must admit I was hoping someone would say just do "this and this" and it will be OK because I hate having to return things,Be Lucky Everyone0
