Speed of a wireless connection

How do I find out the speed of a wireless connection? It says 54Mbps.
Similarly, how do I find the speed of an Ethernet connection. It is a 100Mbps one, and that's what it says when I go on the tray icon of the two monitors. But is it running at that speed?

They are maximum speeds. You would actually get about half the maximum rate over a wireless connection but it is still likely to be much faster than your broadband connection speed! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

I know, so how can I find out the actual speed data is being transferred at?espresso wrote:They are maximum speeds. You would actually get about half the maximum rate over a wireless connection but it is still likely to be much faster than your broadband connection speed!0 -
copy a file to another PC on the network, and time it, or install a network monitor e.g. http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/awatch.zip
do you have a networking tab in task manager?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Not sure if this helps but this will give you the download speed for your broadband connection which is the slowest part of the deal

What's a good result for a 1 Gb ISP connection with that test? I was coming up with 112 K/s (904 Kbps).0

Assuming you mean 1Mbps (not 1Gbps - I don't think even the Japanese have those sort of speeds yet!), your download rate looks pretty much on the money. You were rated at 904Kbps, your actual speed is approx 1024Kbps. However, when downloading, there is extra data needed to get the internet protocol messages to your PC, which use up some of your bandwidth, so you will never actually get the full 1024Kbps. I normally allow about 10% for this extra padding, so your speeds seem fine (i.e. I have an 8Mbps line, but typically get about 7.2Mbps on a good day, downhill with a tail wind).
Hope this helps,

I dont think Japan has 1GB/s yet but Malaysia is testing 2GB. I can get roughly about 600K/s download speed on my 1MB ADSL but I am usually doing other things with my internet at the same time. So that speed is about right if you are doing ntohing else on the internet.
If you want to maximise your download speed
