    Sounds a bit bain marie-ish.
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j
  • It sounds like a Bain Marie - A water bath for making sauces, custards, melting chocolate etc.

The hot water doesn't touch the bottom of the pan on top so it doesn't boil and 'split'.

You can create the same effect with a saucepan and pyrex bowl resting on top.

Some people collect copper kitchenware don't they? Sounds industrial more than domestic.
A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.

Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.

    one life, live it!
  • I'd second the bain-marie idea.

Google the maker and see what happens - or look on ebay and see how much one is going for.
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

Possibly something used in a bakery to make confectioners custard etc.

I have a double saucepan that can be used in the same way but doesn't have a bowl shape on the inner pan.

Yours sounds very good - I believe that copper conducts heat particularly well and evenly.

I Googled and T Errington were (are?) a Portsmouth firm
  • Judging from the prices of copper bain-maries (or double boilers - loads more hits from google for this name) you shouldn't give it away for a fiver!
New ones are going for well over £200!!

Seem like the company was based in Portsmouth but that is all I can find from a google search.

Is it something like this type of thing on ebay:

Sounds like a double boiler to me. I have a stainless steel one. you use them for melting chocolate or cooking custards, hollandaise sauce and other tricky sauces.
