Hi
Can anyone help me ?
Ive been private renting for the last year. After 11 months of being in the property i gave my 1 months notice.
The letting agent contacted me to get my reference number for my deposit/bond as it went into one of these deposit accounts that they have for landlords.
I moved out and everything was fine. No charges as everything was as i left it.
I was told my cheque was in the post for my bond back, which i received today !
The problem being i paid £610 bond ! I received a cheque today for £545.... On the invooice i received with the cheque it states i have been charged £39.13 checkout fee and £5.87 VAT.
Is this right ???
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is the checkout fee in your contract? Did you sign to agree these deductions as part of the process of getting your deposit back?
Apart from that, £5.87 is the right VAT on £39.13, but the total is £45, meaning that you should have had £565, if the arithmetic was done correctlyHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. sorry it was £565 my mistake ..... but ive private rented before and used to work in a letting agent and have never come across this b4.
But as its its been a while and this new deposit system has been put into place since i was doing it in not sure on this one.
i can't find my contract (still packed somewhere after moving i think ) but im going to request a copy from the agent tomora i think , would this be ok to do so0 -
I know that we have to pay a checkout fee, it seems pretty standard practice for an agency trying to make as much money from you as possible
**Thanks to everyone on here for hints, tips and advice!**:D

Hah, I doubt that the agent will hurry to send you the contract even if he says he will. And if he does, it may be new T&C's, not the ones you signed up to.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
