Kath Kelly - frugality talk in Bristol

I found her quite inspiring when I saw her on tv. I would certainly go along if I had the opportunity. I have read her book and it is an easy read. Each chapter covers a month of the challenge. She began her challenge in order to save for a wedding present for her brother. I did something similar 2 years ago when I wanted to save up for my sons' weddings, the first in May and not sure about the next but 'on the cards'. I decided to half my expenditure. I call it the 'half rule'. I succeeded in most areas with the exception of my mortgage, council tax and some car expenses, though did more than half my car insurance. I found that I reduced the cost of some things by so much or was able to give some things up completely that it made up for the expenses I couldn't halve.
This site has been amazingly helpful. I am always recommending it.0 -
As promised, an update ref Kath Kelly. I met the lovely Always Happy and we went to the talk together. Both of us really enjoyed it.
I don't think either of us really picked up any amazing new tips to pass on - the way that she did it would be familiar to any OS board regular, like buying whoopsies, foraging for blackberries, clipping coupons and getting freebies etc. But it was lovely to hear how her experience had changed and enriched her life, including meeting her partner Bruce. Together they are now trying to live a more ethical and environmentally friendly life and she will be writing a book about that too.
I'll probbaly be organising an OS Bristol meet soon - maybe see some of you there.Life is not a dress rehearsal.0 -
Hey remember to give me a shout when you do, so I can book the train ticket well in advance!
Am going to organise a London meet early in December in case you are interested, too.

And your accommodation is sorted too - you are very welcome to stay with me. House may still be chaotic due to ongoing decorating work but if you don't mind that, no problem xLife is not a dress rehearsal.0 -
You are so kind, thank you! Same for when you come over to London of course!

It was lovely meeting savingforoz and I found the talk really interesting, don't think I do tooooo bad on my economising- thanks to tips from this site - but it did show me that I could do a lot better - though not sure that I would feel comfortable asking for free food in a shop, nor would my hubby let me hitch-hike, but nevertheless, a lovely lady and a great evening - looking forward to the next meet up!I'm not a failure if I don't make it, I'm a success because I :tried!0

This all sounds very interesting, I haven't come across this lady before. Can you tell me her website as I would like to know more before I buy her book.0
