Have a few questions for all you bed people out there:D
Hi, i'm planning to buy an ottoman style bed like this(though i haven't decided where to buy it yet)
http://www.time4sleep.co.uk/product--1264--6--birlea_ottoman.html?source=webgains&siteid=6037#rvw
What I want to know is will my double mattress from my old divan bed fit it ok? I know 4'6" is 4'6" but as they are very different styles I'd like to check.
I wanted to get a new mattress but the bed base itself costs a lot more than I originally planned (the one I wanted from Tesco direct is OOS) so it will have to wait.
Also can anyone recommend one they've bought or seen one at a good price?
one more q - I saw one at Sleepmaster,
http://www.sleepmasters.co.uk/double-leather-beds/memphis-leather-bed-152.html
The sales lady says this one is preferable as it has extra supports holding it up.
any help appreciated.

As long as the beds are standard UK sizes, then your existing double mattress should fit fine (as long as that is a standard UK double (what are the dimensions?
What type of springs does your existing mattress contain?
The Sleepmasters bed is very expensive, but that is probably because it is priced at shop prices rather than on line prices. The extra supports shouldn't be required as long as it is a well made bed, and they could make it difficult to position all the items in the base so that the bed will close.0 -
I have just noticed the bed you are talking about has gone half price at Sleepmasters, if there is any time to buy it - it’s now!0

This was a few months ago so I've got one now. I got one from Best Price Beds, the 5 day delivery turned out to be 5 weeks minus footboard but we got there in the end....0

Hi everyone who is thinking of buying a sleepmaster bed. I would like to warn you all not to buy from them as the quality of the beds are poor and the treatment from the aftercare team is less than adequate. I bought a ottaman maxi bed from sleepmasters in september 09 and the mattress is sagging and the the springs can be seen when looking at the mattress and felt when lying on the bed. I phoned sleepmaster about the fault and they said the fault was not theirs and they were unprepared to do anything about it. I wrote a letter to sleepmaster explaining what the problem was, the response i got on the phone and that this was not satisfactory and wanted someone to come to look at the bed. Their reply was to send photographs which i did. They said in their opinion it was our fault for not rotating the matress (something we was not advised to do and was not on any of the paperwork provided) and not a manufacturing fault. They sent someone to look at the bed who said the same again. I have since spoken to an independant bed company who said this was rubbish and there obviously is a manufacturers fault. We are continueing to pursue this matter but want to warn others not to buy from sleepmasters as they are cowboys with a big brand name!!!!0

If you had been on MSE before buying the bed, and done some research, then you would never have bought from them in the first place.
In their defence you should always rotate a mattress end to end, and turn it over (if it isn't non turn), on a regular basis if you want it to last. However they should have told you this at the time. Even if you didn't rotate it at all, then it shouldn't be in such a state that you can see the springs by now.
What was the make and and model of the base and mattress?0 -
Hi scnsb,
We have received this response from Sleepmasters:
"Hi,
We were really sorry to read your post about the service that you’ve received. We take our customers’ satisfaction extremely seriously and if their beds are of unsatisfactory quality then we guarantee to do something about it.
All furniture will compress slightly where the most pressure is placed upon it. In fact, many beds are designed so that the layers of upholstered fillings go through a process called 'settlement', to allow slight indentations to develop in your most common sleeping position. This isn't a fault and is in fact a sign of a quality product and demonstrates the depth and luxury of the fillings in your bed. You can help even this process out by turning or rotating your mattress on a regular basis, which admittedly you should have been told before you purchase.
It sounds like we’ve already sent an independent technician to assess your bed, and he found nothing wrong with it. I hope you can understand why we declined to replace it for you at this stage. However, as you are still unhappy we will gladly review the case. We’d be really grateful if you would get in contact with us to let us know who you are (either your name or order number) on enquiries@sleepmasters.co.uk. We can arrange for The Furniture Ombudsman to come and assess your bed to give a final opinion or see if we can come to an alternative resolution.
We really do take your views very seriously and we look forward to hearing from you soon.
Kind regards,
Sleepmasters Customer Services Team"0 -
This is a few times now that Sleepmasters have posted on here, trying to make out that they take customers service very seriously. What I would like to know is why does it take loads of complaints on a public forum before they will give good customer service????
So to Sleepmasters, as usual it is too little too late for many of your unsatisfied customers, and your posts on here just don't do much for your credibility.0 -
Hi scnsb,
We have received this response from Sleepmasters:
“Hello again,
As mentioned in a post before, with regards to Sleepmasters posting on the MSE forums and listening to comments, we know that online communities are increasingly important to our customers and we want to move with the times.
We certainly don’t want to silence complaints or conversation, rather we want to use the internet as a tool for communicating more directly with our customers, both happy and unhappy. Hopefully we can work with scnsb to solve this issue. This is a learning experience for us too and don’t forget we are not allowed to post directly to the forum, which always adds to response time!
Back to the issue at hand, scnsb please email details of your order to enquiries@sleepmasters.co.uk. We will arrange for The Furniture Ombudsman to come and assess your bed to give a final opinion or see if we can come to an alternative resolution.
Thank you"0 -
Wouldn't it just be better if Sleepmaster gave everyone good customer service in the first place??????0
