My iPod Touch won't sync :(

I can't get my iPod touch to sync.

I'm really cross because I bought the V 3.0 software on the day of its release months ago and have never been able to get it onto my iPod (iTunes vanished off my laptop and I struggled to get it back)

Now iTunes is back on at last and it recongised my iPod when I connect it. It starts charging, opens iTunes and asks if I want to download V 3.0. I select yes, it extracts the software and then attempts to sync however when it gets to the backing up stage it doesn't seem to finish even after hours connected, the progress bar remains the same.

I'm getting fed up with it now. I took it to the Apple store yesterday but they didn't know what to do, I could book at appointment to take in again with my laptop but not sure when that will be.

Any suggestions?

I had the same thing
Just keep at it, I had to do it 3 times before it completed it. worth touching the screen at the top not the cancel to keep the ipod on.

First time failed to extract,
2nd time failed to install
3rd time all fine

we had the same thing before.....couldnt get it to sync......after a few more tries it completely died!!
when we took it to the apple shop they said that the harddrive in it had completely died and replaced it on the spot.

you must have been unlucky, I updated the day of release mines going strong no problems with it at all now

Have you tried restoring it in iTunes?

I must have tried to sync it 20 times in the last two days, I'm not getting anywhere with it. Apart from not syncing it seems ok, it did crash last week but I recovered it by performing a hard restart.

I don't want to get a new one if I can help it, I use it every day and have lots on it, with a backup I'd be pretty much back to the beginning with it.

you might need to do a restore, it wipes the Ipod and then put back your apps and music.

You mean restore it then add each app one by one as I have no backup? It sounds really tedious

itunes keeps the apps when sync or use app store with itunes . unless you not set it up to sync properly which can mean hassels when you have to restore.
