I have some documents created using Word 2003. When I try to print them off, my quotes (which are part of the text but indentied) are printed in a funny way, like a vertical line in the middle

Any advice on what may be wrong would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance x

  • marked as a correction? Someone has marked as "strikethrough". Highlight word and change to normal on the font/atrributes area...
re read maybe wrong here...Vertical line then, that a "pipe" mark.
    See a sample?
Delete and replace word if lots then Find / Replace...

Thanks for your reply, the quotes themselves actually appear as a line from the top to the bottom of the page, across other text..
  • How did you insert the quotes?

Are you sure it's not a problem with your printer?

It could be depositing a large glob of ink at the end of it's line which then gets dragged down the page.

    Thanks for your replies,
I've got a new style set up with its own format and I just type the quotes.
I don't think it is the printer becasue I had the same problem when I tried to print it off using other printers

Bizarre, as the quotes are being printed top to bottom, over the other text. Normally, only a graphic would do that

What happens if you create a new document, then just put one sentence formatted as "quotes"? Does this print top to bottom?

If so, then you need to look at the style carefully - check each element of the style to see if there's anything odd. Also, check the style on which "quotes" is based to see if it's picked up something from a legacy style.

    Thanks for your help everyone

Just looked at the quote format again, I seem to have indented it 25 ch, not sure what 'ch' stands for :o but then again when I change the indented margines to 1.27, for instance, my new chosen format keeps changing :eek: to 0.22 cm left and 1.27 ch right ....This is driving me insane...How can I re-set the format properly please and what does 'ch' mean

ch means "characters" I think. How are you changing the indent - within the style itself? Are you changing the margins in the document - if so, then it could be that Word is automatically updating the style to match any formatting you apply in the document. When you format the style, uncheck the box to automatically update the style.

change the font type to something very different and test, or change the printer driver to a newer one if possible.
