Family tickets-fair play for single parents

I'm taking the children to see the Blackpool illuminations at half term, with a cheap hotel and train fare (thanks MSE!). However, I just looked up the cost of a daily ticket on the trams, and it's really expensive (rant about the price of public transport suspended). There is a family ticket at £14.95 per *day*, but that's only a couple of pounds cheaper than paying for one adult and two children anyway. Yet it covers two adults and up to three kids.
I get really sick of, effectively, paying for an adult who isn't there. I absolutely refuse to pay for the first child as an adult on holiday, which means we haven't taken a package holiday...er...ever. The holiday companies' loss...
So come on, MSE-ers, who are the good guys when it comes to one parent out with their children?
Early nominations:
English Heritage (up to four related children admitted with one adult member)
National Trust (one adult family memberships available)

A couple more good guys:
Stagecoach buses. In my local area, an adult dayrider plus is £5, a family D+ (one adult and two children) £5.50. A dayrider gold is £7 for an adult, £10 for a family (1+2 again)
And Italy (can I nominate a whole country?) Under 16s with an EU passport get in free to most museums and sites.import this0 -
A little off-topic but Portugal have a cheaper rate for those under 25 (I think it is, I was def allowed in cheaper when I was 22) when you're going to see old buildings and other tourist attractions which I think is great, I don't think you should have to pay full adult price for things when you're under 21, at least!
**Thanks to everyone on here for hints, tips and advice!**:D

Here in Northern Ireland, Translink ( our transport company does rail and bus) has family savers fares during the summer and are really good. it's 1 adult and 4 kids, I think or 2 adults and 4 kids. Also in the cinema at Yorkgate, Belfast, I got a family ticket for me and the 3 kids which was great! It's about time more companies did this!0
