Computer help please

Hi all, I have put 2 old computers together to make a good one, mainly for playing music on down my gym. Now it's all loaded up with all the updates and stuff, and works it seems ok once on for a while. But when I turn it on each day, it trips and restarts sometimes once sometimes a couple of times!.......... Could this be the m/board battery or something more expensive?

Thanks in advance

That sounds like the PSU (Power Supply Unit) to me
Should be able to get one for around 25 quid or so (Or use the one out of the other computer?)

Thanks for replying, typically it starts up 1st time today, came down and turned it on just after posting this message, and am now posting from it. It did however trip out and restart just as I got here!

The power supply seems ok, a friend said due to it being stuck in the loft for last 18months or more, that it was probably the m/board battery, I posted for a second opinion or confirmation. Thanks again:beer:

Well the power supply wont be supplying enough power for all the components so it cuts out.
  • Your term TRIPS OUT has several meanings to me, can you say more, PSU trips is the real meaning, or BSOD or PC just reboots? Its not the battery BTW.
Is the hard drive from the other motherboard or a new OS clean install?

or, I had this with an older pc, it would do this with anything plugged into a pair of usb ports which were on the way out. Leave stuff unplugged and it booted fine. just another possibility......
