Help/advice on how to get a receipt.

Hello,
On the 7th April 2008 I purchased a new Sony PS3 from an independently owned retailer, who was selling on eBay through their own store. I sent them payment through Paypal, partly paid for with funds already in my Paypal account and the remainder from my linked Alliance and Leicester bank account. The console arrived as described and worked flawlessly until only 3 or so weeks ago. Basically the console no longer recognises discs of any format, and so the fault is a suspected faulty BlueRay drive.
I phoned Sony Playstation support who told me that even though it was out of warranty by a few months, they would happily arrange for it to be replaced under goodwill - so 10/10 for Sony. They asked me where I had purchased it from and I told them what I have told you above. They said that they would need a copy of the receipt that the retailer themselves received from their distributor for my console in order to prove that the console was in fact new. This I thought was fair, so I went about contacting the retailer to ask for a copy of the reciept.
The retailer is no longer registered as a store on eBay. They are still however in business, as I have visited their website and they even have 2 or 3 retail stores throughout the UK. All their contact details are the same on their website as are shown on my Paypal receipt. I have been very busy recently and have not had time to phone them, only email them. I first emailed them 2 weeks ago, explaining the situation (along with giving them all the details of our transaction so they knew I was genuine) and very nicely requested a copy of that receipt that I could send to Sony. I have had no reply, so today I sent a second email, slightly more pushing but still polite.
I am starting to get a little concerned. They are VAT registered, so it should be a simple task of going through their records to find the receipt (I have pointed this out in my second email). I am not asking for any refund or replacement from them, just a simpe receipt - yet I get no response at all. I am posting here therefore to find out my rights/possible courses of action from here.
It looks like I am going to have to call them when I have 5 minutes in work, but I would like to know all my options if they are defensive. The cynic in me thinks that they are not replying as they are somehow in the wrong; they have not kept the receipt/they are fiddling the VAT/the PS3 they sold me as 'new' was actually not (although it was a sealed box) etc. All I want is my PS3 fixed, and it can be done for free with this simple piece of paper. If I don't get it it will cost me circa a third of the original cost to get it repaired.
Can you guys give me any help/advice on what I can do? I would really appreciate it! I'm starting to regret not just buying from a big store instead, and this is probably the only time I haven't used a credit card for this kind of purchase!

Perhaps they are just short staffed and don't see you as a priority? They did originally give you a receipt so any other help will be goodwill,If I am not mistaken.0
