Pop in to an estate agent and look for three or four bedroom properties. Or search for them on the internet. Not that difficult.

    Can you rent privately?

Ring shelter for advice on dealing with the council. Some areas are just horribly short of council homes though.

Actually, ALL local authorities and housing associations are terribly short of housing stock, in Scotland especially. I was just reading a report in one of the newspapers quite recently about the dire shortage in Scotland. Some people on the waiting list are still going to be waiting in 20 years time. It's heartbreaking

Why not go and rent somewhere privately if you NEED more space...

Too simple. Best to keep having kids and then make a fuss when you realise that you've ended up with more kids than bedrooms.

Are u kidding me? I hope this dig is not specifically aimed at me. I only came to ask your advice, but if u cant offer anything nice or helpful, why reply. I adore my children and i dont see why i shouldnt have my family as housing is short. I cant beleive someone would write something like that. However, Thanks very much everyone else for you much appreciated advice.

  • I'm female and had to share a room with my younger brother until I was 15 years old and he was 11.

Basically the housing department had higher priorities than us.

My advice would be to keep pursuing them for your autistic sons behalf, He does need private space for himself.
  • Renting privately is often a nightmare. There is no security of tenure. You are often not allowed to decorate as you please and basically lining someones pocket and paying off their mortgage.

My heart goes out to you OP as you shouldn't be living like this. I hope the council finds you somwhere soon.

I have great sympathy for you, but they do have a point, albeit bluntly put. I know people who own houses without enough rooms for the children they have or want, so have to make tough choices. Life is not perfect and many of the three bed houses have been sold off.
    Been away for a while.
  • I would love to buy eventually but right now its not an option. Moneys tight for most folk nowadays and private let tends to be really expensive. But ill keep trying to see if any new properys become available. I thank you all for your advice. Ill let you know if i get any luck :)
