Piercing at Claires

Options
Around a week ago I took my younger sister to get her ears pierced at Claires.I was standing on the left hand side when the woman drew the dots on my sisters ear lobes and was asked if I thought it was okay. After we had left though I noticed that one of the piercings was not at the same height as the other one.

I went back to the store and was told to remove that earing and that if I came back later on after the ear had healed I would be able to get it fixed for no charge, but I went back today and was told to come back tomorrow when the manager would actually be in.

I was wondering do I actually have the right to complain, seeing that I did say that it was okay in the first place but the woman should have also made sure.

Any advice on this issue would be brilliant. :undecided

  • I wouldn't have thought that a week is sufficient time for the hole to heal and I personally wouldn't go back there to have them repierced after the first attempt was botched. I think if you agreed that the dots on the ears looked ok before the piercing was performed then I can't really see that you have any comeback. That said, there is nothing wrong with complaining to the manager tomorrow and see what they can offer to resolve the matter.

I wouldn't go to Claire's in the first place, go to a proper jeweller to do it.

They always seem to have teenagers doing the piercing when i pass the window, its like a freak show with everyone outside watching

Tends to be mostly the older, traditional, independent jewellers rather than your high street chains, but plenty of them do it.

General rule of thumb, avoid Claires and any hairdressers for ear piercing!
For any part of the body other than ears this goes double! Go find a respectable piercer who will do it properly.

just re-read my post and want to apologise - I was abit abrupt. the OP asked a reasonable question sorry! hun a week is not enough time for a peircing to heal but it wont do any harm to ask the manager if they would re-peirce the ear when it HAS healed. personally I have mine done at local tattoo place - the girl who does them is highly qualified and experienced. but my neices had them done at claires - and had no probs.

My advice would be avoid Claire's and if she still needs them redoing get them done in a piercing studio. I had my ears first pierced in a jewellers-they are wonky. Sisters both had theirs done at Claires, and both times they got infected. Have since always got mine done in a actual piercing studio, as they know what they are doing and you get proper aftercare.

Did they pierce the ears exactly on the holes? If they missed then its thier mistake and they should really refund you at least

Thats what I was just thinking, maybe the little marks were level, but when she actually did the pearcing, she may have been 'off target' so the actual pearcings are not level, even if the marks were!
  • Moral of the story is NEVER have your ear pierced with a gun. They work by forcing a relatively blunt piece of metal through your ear, which is a bad thing, they can't be sanitised properly (if you got it tested you would find decomposing flesh on it) and they're not very good at aiming. You should cut your losses, go to a proper piercer and have them do it with a needle.
