Faulty Dell Inspiron 1300. What would you do?

I recently bought one of the bargain Dell Inspiron 1300 laptops but discovered a problem when recharging the battery. I called them for help and after explaining the problem they offered to send a new battery. It arrived but still the same problem. The chap I had spoken to called me to see if all was ok and when I told him it wasn't he said it will need a new motherboard and they would have to collect it. I told him that they could just replace the whole laptop as I didn't want to be paying new prices for what was effectively going to be a reconditioned laptop. He then told me that I only have 7 days from receiving the laptop to report a fault if I want a replacement. I reported the fault 8 days after delivery!

Would you have kicked up a fuss? Not knowing much about computers I don't know if replacing the motherboard is a big job or something I should be worrying about. Interested in peoples thoughts on this.

I don't know what your rights are but I would kick up a stink and demand a replacement, I'm sure if you make enough fuss you will get a replacement. I got same laptop a couple of weeks ago and fortunately it has been trouble free.

    Good luck!

I think I need to find out if I legally should have been entitled to a replacement. They picked it up today to take it in to fix but if I find they should have replaced it I will be after some sort of compensation.

In fairness to the them they have tried to help and have tried to sort the problem very quickly but I know if it were a shop I would be walking out with a refund or replacement without question. I don't think repairing an eight day old laptop is really acceptable!
