This isn't on the high street but to cut out postage why don't you buy in bulk?

I use Dr Bronners Castile Soap unfragranced no more tears for babies - cause I'm sensitive. I get a litre about roughly £10 including p+p and it lasts me all year doing my hair and making handwash.

I know you can get about 5litres for £30 which should do a family for a long time. Its pretty concentrated so only the smallest amount is needed to wash hair and augment the handwash with some water (1/3 soap to 2/3 water) and add your fav essential oils.

It seems like a lot of money to begin with but it will pay for itself in the long run. I don't even want to think how much I used to spend on shampoo in a year alone.

    Hope this helps.
I've already done that with shampoo and conditioner but as there are 6 of us in the house we go through hand soap at a rate of knotts. The problem with bulk buying is you have to store it.

If you google Pure Skin Care their website shoudl come up. I find its the best price for the 1litre bottle but I would shop around on google to find the best price.

I tend to store a big bottle in the cupboard or somewhere out of the way and fill up a wee bottle to keep in the shower. Bit more user friendly.

I shop in asda and they have a range of hand wash and body wash products there for about £1.50 for a handwash. They are really good and come in nice scents, and have no parabens or sls in. The range is called Bentley Organic, and has an orange colour label on.

list of ingredients for the Grapefruit, lemon and seaweed oils handwash is:

Aqua, Potassium oleate*, potassium cocoate**, glycerine, sodium chloride, limonene***, potassium citrate, citrus medica, limonum peel oil***, potassium palmkernelate, palm kernel acid, fucus vesiculosus extract, citrus grandis (grapefruit) peel oil***.

*= Derived from organic sunflower oil.
**= Derived from organic coconut oil.
    ***= Organic origin.

I think you can boil soap nuts in water to use the liquid as a handwash/ shampoo etc.

Thanks for this - I've got a bottle of almond castile soap from another source but this website is good, will probably order the lavender in larger quantities and decant.

THIS website is so fab too!

Having used soap nuts for washing I don't think I'll buy anymore. I didn't find them terribly effective and think I'd probably use just water. It's funny how some people really like them and others don't.
  • Just a wee side note as its that time of year.

Instead of buying soap nuts you can go out and collect conkers. They contain saponins which are the same chemicals contained in soap nuts so you should be able to remove the outter layer and boil them up and then you have soap for free.

I know that description wasn't very comprehensive but a google search should shed more light.
  • I use method from Boots, It is a foam and lasts ages. This is the only one which doesn't dry my skin. HTH
