Help! I can't get BT

I live in Hull, so consequently I have to use Kingston Communications for my land line rather than BT.

I was looking for a cheap dial up for the internet, but all the ones recommended here seem to only relate to BT (the fast4net, free24-7 and mipcards are only accessible with BT landlines).

Does anyone know what is available in a KC area? The only one I can find (on the KC website) is Karoo, which is £18/month for unlimited access, which is almost three times the price with fast4net.

All help greatly appreciated!

Steve

For ADSL you would presumably have to use Kingston Communications but surely for dial up you can dial any number i.e. Free UK ISP

I should imagine at some stage, if it hasn't happened already, that Kingston Comms will be forced to unbundle the local loop (LLU) in the Hull airea. This will see KC's competitors installing their broadband equipment (the DSLAMs) in KC's telephone exchanges, and lease-managing the last "golden mile" of KC's cabling to your home.

ISPs like Bulldog and Tiscali would then be able to offer you a much more competitive internet service than KC is currently providing.

That, I guess, is where I would be looking.

See the adslguide forum for Kingston Comms (Karoo)..

    My postcode is HU12 8HX

The 0844 numbers will of course work and they will be charged at 1p per minute at all times by KC. However, my girlfriend is at home during the day at the moment and needs to use the internet a lot to search for jobs, so it will probably be better to sign up with Karoo dial up at £17.99 per month.

It is just frustrating that there are all those cheap providers out there (fast4net being the best at £6.99 per month), that are available to 98% of the UK, while I have absolutely no choice and have to sign up with Karoo, who can charge whatever they want as there is no competition.

    Ah well, it's only money!

I assumed that KC must provide access just like BT does in the rest of the country. This is outrageous that Ofcom has done nothing for the people of Hull, and yet another reason it should be disbanded and a body put in place that can do the job.
