Have already asked and they cant bring anyone, its too short notice now to ask people to take time off work. Am going to put on my thinking cap, I have a couple of ideas but will discuss with h2b first. Am refusing to feel angry at being let down so soon to the day but have better things to think about!

As a general rule, they don't allow the staff at a register office to step in as a witness.

The reason being is, that if word got around over time that they did, it would start to happen all too often. Even now lots of couples arrive with a romantic notion of pulling two people in at the last moment and this occasionally results in tears if there are simply no staff available.

However, when you consider the atmosphere the staff work in dealing with people from all walks of life during all of lifes up and downs, both happiest and saddest times, my experience is that they will always go out of their way to help in any way possible.

I know if it was my office and you explained your situation they would pull out all of the stops to help you achieve the marriage that you want. If you explain, they will try their very best to accommodate providing someone for you.

Just another thought .... if you were getting a taxi there, what about the taxi driver. There'll be some old romantic on the staff at the firm who would love to do that for you I bet.:D

I have managed to get 2 possibilities lined up, one of them is definately free on the day, which is a huge relief!
