k5400 printer dead but warranty may pay - which duplex injet should I buy for CISS ?

After nearly a week of desperately trying to get the new £43 printhead to work, my printer is just not having it .

Took out a warranty about 2 years ago when I bought it (£20 for 3 years) and thought it probably wasn't worth the paper it was written on. Phoned up pc world at 9pm tonight and they just said I could pick up a new one!:j (Believe it when I have it in my hands!)

Trouble is it doesn't look like they sell the HP k5400 anymore so I'm stuffed and looking for a new printer.

I need a network printer, duplex printing, inkjet and CISS compatible. Anyone got any experiences of using a printer with all of the above?

I print out colour sheets regularly to teach with and can't afford the colour laser jet cartridges. Only just managed to scrape by to get the HP as I work part time.

So if you've got a good system I really would welcome your comments.

Thank you

I don't know which model it will be now, but I have a Canon IP4200 printer - which does everything you ask for, except plug into a network.

No doubt Canon will sell one which meets your needs, exactly. I've always liked them, and are generally inexpensive to use when using cartridges from https://www.inkcycle.co.uk (or whoever you want to use - I just use them, mind).

Until recently I would have recommended Canon, but they have been getting really greedy - their latest range of printers have even smaller ink tanks than previously, and they have put the prices up massively recently (a full set of carts was £35 last year, now it's £50!).

This price increase has meant that even fully compatible (chipped) cartridges are now getting stupidly expensive as well (e.g. a set from the site that basmic mentions costs £30).

With all current Canons I believe that you will have to disable ink level monitoring when fitting a CISS, which immediately invalidates the printhead warranty.
  • Thanks Basmic and fwor for your comments. I knew it wasn't going to be easy.
Will look at Canon now with open eyes for the small ink cartridges. Thanks.

If you are looking at Canon, try to Canon outlet (http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/Canon-Outlet__W0QQ_armrsZ1) to save some money.
  • Thanks, decided to give the Canon a go and will buy a CISS system. Ordered it this afternoon and then the built in Microwave broke!! You just have to laugh!
