Is there a decent free podcast hosting service around? I want to put a monthly podcast on itunes, would unlimited bandwidth also be pushing it?

Good luck finding that.
A decent one which isn't too expensive is Jelly Cast:

Their plan 0 for a £10 one off fee will probably suit you well.
