Go and get advice! Pay someone for advice or shop around. No one here can give you any financial planning advice without going through the correct papers etc. If they do, I can tell you now, the FSA are looking at this website and will remove anyone's licence if they do not carry out the right papers.

So unfortunately, this topic has to be dropped. You will find this answer normal.

What a ridiculous remark. Even Dunston doesn't bully people like that. You have made the same unhelpful intervention on another thread in the last few hours and it gives them no useful advice. If someone wants suggestions as to whet to do with their money, and you have some suggestions, put them forward. Do not have a go at innocent questioners because they don't put their enquiries in formal financial-expert language.

In this case Altin may well want to consult a (real Independent) financial adviser, or people here may want to make suggestions, but more information would be useful such as: do you have other savings or any debts, what timescale do you envisage before possibly needing the money, etc.

So you want me to make suggestions without knowing what I am suggesting?

If it's savings then consulting an IFA will be of no help as an IFA will only help with investments.

If it's investments then my making suggestions for savings accounts will be of no help at all.

Once the OP clarifies what he/she wants then sensible suggestions could perhaps be made.

Take the tin foil hat off and step away from the PC.

People have discussion and give opinions not formal, financial advice on here and there are plenty of caveats to that effect in Sigs and in the Forum Ts & Cs

The clues in the title and the original post
  • You may have to ask yourself the following questions

1 do I need this money and if so when

2 how much risk am I willing to take ?

3 what is your personal tax situation

4 if I start to invest how much time am I willing to put !nto research

5 How does 30000 quid fit into the rest of your financial planning

If you cannot find quick answers to the above put the money into an easy
access saving account with any bank and take a decision once you found
a satisfactorily answer to the above.

..... I just happened to be in that situation last year ... in a falling market

Not really. As the OP has asked the question, I'm assuming he/she is a layman. Often a layman's definition of 'save' and 'invest' are the same. Whereas in reality, save = relatively safe and invest = risk = gamble.

It is the OP's attitude to both that govern the advice.

You mean like in this thread?

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1927577

I made the mistake there of assuming "invest" meant invest as the title said "invest", the original post said "invest" and the timescale for investing was correct. Turned out the OP of that thread actually meant save.

Hence my question here to clarify.
