Large house 2 rent over christmas

Hi

Im thinking about getting my family together for 3 days over christmas (if not this year then next?) and spending it in a huge house somewhere in the uk?

Ive looked at a couple of websites but cant find much within our price range.
There are 28 of us in total (5 of which are tiny and could sleep in portable cots). We would love somewhere with an indoor pool or games room to entertain the older ones of an evening.

I wondered if anyone could recommend somewhere they may have been before?

A lot of the Youth Hostels are available for hire in the quiet season. Perhaps not actually Christmas day though?

You're unlikely to find a pool but they do have games rooms. We've stayed as a big group of friends near Tenby, in Okehampton and near to Buxton. It works out really cheap as a family - I think we pay less than £100 including the food which we have delivered by Mr Tesco :) Tenby is probably near to no-one but that was my favourite as it was warm and all on one level so the kids just ran and ran without us having to worry too much about the littlies. It had a pool table and two great big rooms and a smaller one with a TV.

We've done this in France and the Lake District, but there's only ever been around six of us. France is much, much cheaper than the UK - you can get some beautiful houses for not a lot of money.. having said that, 28 is a huge number to find accommodation for, so you'd need to be looking at a chateau, I think!

We've used cottages4u.co.uk and they've been excellent - sometimes they even include price of ferry. Course, this depends on people's willingness to travel and whether you're nearer Scotland or Dover!

  • Another option could be hoseasons, and stay in some holiday lodges, several having swimming pools in complex and pub/restaurants where you could get together for family dinner and some lodges can take a dozen or so people, not sure where about you want to go, so best way is to browse.

Okay your not all staying under one roof ( but that may not be a bad thing ~L~) but you'ld be close to each other.

some properties seem expensive but with 28 people the split should be affordable enough

this is the best priced one I have managed to find which sleeps 28 or more.Allt he rest were £7,500 for a week so probably about £5,500 for 3 night.Over xmas hols though most places will only rent out the xmas week for a full week.So this one is about £5,500 for 7 days. This one works out at £28 PPPN for all 28 family members or just under £200 per person for the week, not bad actually.

you might be cheaper booking into a nice hotel for a few nights,if you choose a smaller hotel you will get the whole place to yourself.
Or look for a cluster of cottages on an estate, probably cheaper than a mansion or castle.
