Exellent!!.
Back in the days of 'on digital' they made the boxes with an expansion port in the back because they realised that the codec used by DTV was already obsolete as it was 13 years old at the time. They planned to release a new module with a full HD decoder built-in (same codecs as Freesat uses now). When Granaa/Carlton pulled the plug on 'On' , the group that bought-up the system and re-released it as 'Freeview' failed to include this upgrade path as they were to narrow-minded & technilogically backward to see any changes such as HD coming.
That's why Freeview WON@T be doing HDTV, and why 90% of the current channel owners will switch to Freesat over the next 5 years or so.Never Knowingly Understood.

You'd better tell Freeview that, as they are due to start transmitting HD (BBC, ITV1 and Channel 4) in December. Not that anyone will be able to receive it though.

Possibly, or he/she is referring to this:

That's why I said this:The only thing I know of that MAY be able to receive freeview HD when it comes out is the new philips 9 series TV as it has an MP4 decoder in it and is used to pick up the german/other european equivalents of freeview HD.
but I was referring to items currently available for purchase, rather than the soon-to-arrive-freeview HD boxes.0 -

Obviously never heard of HD Freeview,, Surely 99.999% of people have standard freeview.0 -

You'd think so, but even though cambridge has a decent freeview signal, so many customers where I work have no idea about freeview.
Here are a few gems I get nearly every day:
me: Do you have freeview already?
them: I don't know.
me: Well, do you get bbc3?
them: I get channel 3...
me: *facepalm*
or:
them: This tv has freeview...will it work when they turn the signal off?
me: Yes.
them: But it doesn't say it's digital...
and finally:
them: Well I dont care if it's got ditigal yet.
me: but you get more channels and a clearer picture.
them: but you can't get it yet.
me: you can...the tv youre looking at is on digital now.
them: but we aren't getting it until 2012....
me: you've been able to get it for years, but they're only turning off the analogue in 2012.
them: what's that then?
me: AAAAARRRGGGHHH.
Also, they get digital and HD mixed up, thinking that HD is replacing digital...well, I dont know what they think but theyre easily confused.0 -
Is there any further news about when these Freeview boxes will be dispatched please?
Just wondered if anyone had actually received one.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.TIA.0 -
I'm still waiting for one. I chased the Mail about the time of the previous post and they confirmed they had my order.
I wonder if the intended boxes failed to retune properly when digital switchover started. I had an oldish Thomson box that could not be retuned hence why I took up the DM offer.
