Hi all

I really want to reduce my gas and electric bill, and I called British Gas my supplier to try and find out my usage and what package I was on etc. so I could use Martin's way off cutting costs, and they just talked at me and wouldn't let me speak, they were like if you go to online you will save 6% and if you get this tool you put on your meter it will help you save money and that way you can see how much you use, we cannot tell you. etc etc and by the end of it I was warn out and totally confused!

Why does is seem to be so hard! I just want to be able to save some money by switching but don't know how. The bills confuse me also!

Does anyone have any easy ways to make sure I am cutting my costs and how I go about it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks :confused::rotfl:

Switch everything off, and debate with someone or yourself...DO I REALLY NEED THIS APPLIANCE SWITCHED ON, and examine the alternatives...e.g. Radio instead of t.v., steamers and Remoska instead of oven and hob....electric blanket instead of central heating, energy saving bulbs and switch off when leaving room, a flash of drink instead of boiling kettle every time. Grow your own food and harvest as you want, no need for a freezer. Perhaps not even a fridge if you use powdered milk and no fats etc.
Energy monitor is what they were talking about...good things. Set it up and try and keep it on zero.

Your supplier should be able to tell you how much gas and electricity you use over a 12 month period.
Whats so difficult about digging out your own bills and working it out you just need a reading from 12 months ago and a recent one. Subtract one from the other and there is your usage.
The electricity will be in Kwh which is what you want.
The gas will either be in 100cuft or cubic metres. To this you have do do some simple maths
    • Multiply your units used by 2.83 to give you the number of cubic metres of gas used. (If you have a new meter measured in cubic metres you do not need to do this).
    • Multiply by the temperature and pressure figure (1.02264).
    • Multiply by calorific value (39.25)
    • Divide by 3.6 to get the number of kilowatt hours (kWh)
All these figures should be on your bill.

Pick a comparison site like energyhelpline, fill in your details and Robert is a close relation.

BTW Ebico is competative for low gas users, but not for electricity.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

You asked them too complicated questions, involved them in your business and confused them, the poor darlings.

I suggest you try again, but break it into smaller questions where you know what kind of answer to expect.
    • What is my usage?
    • What is my package?
    • What are the standing charges?
    • What are the unit charges?
    • etc
and only take on 1 question per call. if they start asking why, just stone wall them. Say it si a simple question you need the answer to and last time you spoke to them, they got too involved with your business and didn't answer the question so now, you just want a straight answer to the simple question.
