Ah its good to talk.
I'm already feeling enthusiastic towards other goals (other than trying to win lots of money and pay off all my debts and live like a king...!!!) like becoming debt free, starting training for the plymouth marathon next year (i say this every year!!), brushing up on the old golf for the summer, and of course, getting married in July (....er, more expense...shhhhh!).0 -

You're so right - it is good to talk and this forum is brilliant for that. I really really love it. If someone asked me what some of my favourite things were at the moment, I would really have to say this site comes into it. It's great for coming on here and letting it all out and getting support and advice.
Love it love it love it! :happyhear
Wow though - lots of things to look forward to this year for you plymouth! Check out the wedding forum as well on the site - lots of tips on there which may help. Good luck with the marathon. Come on....if you can do this gamblign thing, what's a 26 & a bit miles in a few hours?Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.

Just an up date.....
Haven't gambled since posting on here, it hasn't been ages but it is a start!
We had our son's Christening yesterday and it was brilliant. He was excellent as well, didn't cry, (did start to whinge but vicar brought him round!) and gave everybody smiles all afternoon (he was 12 weeks old on sat). did have a little bad news today though... got turned down for an HBOS credit card!!! my first rejection, ahhh!0 -
Hey Mr Plymouth,
Big up to you - you are doing really well - I feel that you have really got the addiction to gambling knocked on the head and this is the start of a new life for you and your family - well done and keep posting!
scottishspendaholic xMBNA = £4,000 / Next = £925 (approx. tbc on 19/8)
Tesco = £2,910.11 / Smile overdraft = £500
Bank of Scotland = £2,782.830 -
Good to read the update! Sorry about the knock back though....
Have to say, if you have not given in to the addiction once since you posted originally, I think that's excellent. It can't be easy but really really REALLY good for you and keep it up.
Just think, you can look at your son's christening photos and know you were in your "new life" at that point.
A fantastic key moment that will always remind you of your decision to kick the habit. That's so fantastic.
(Lord...I hope I don't sound patronising?? I don't mean to, I am genuinely happy for you and proud!)Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.

hi your not alone just want to add what everyone is saying well done!
i remember losing 4k 2 yrs ago and begging my husband not to leave me he was so distraught we could have bought a car!, allthough it stopped for 12 months i hit rock bottom last year i racked up around 20-30k mark ive not tallied it up but we now owe in cc'c loans etc 70k so you can guess who is mostly to blame i was always chasing that 4k back but i never got it i gambled 1300 quid in hour! it was all done on line too, my dad passed away last year from cancer and it really hit me and i couldnt cope, not an excuse but it opened up the need to escape all over again, anyway i stopped gambling online end of august 2005 i buy the odd scratch card now and again and dh plays the lottery but im clean! we are together he knows how bad it got and stood by me i have to live with my illness everyday i see my children and have to tell them they wont be going abroad this year or the next 10! they dont know why one day when im ready i will explain
i just want you to know i havent looked back giving up gambling was on of the hardest things i have had to do even harder than giving birth!, there are still times i think about the wins but i relise i cant play it just for fun long gone are the 10 quid limits. so i stop hope this helps you to see how gambling stops being fun and if anything you will sit back and think im not as bad as her, i used to think that too just keep up the good work your doing and be honest with yourself
take care

This is great news PJB!!! Onwards and upwards for you!! It's so great hearing news like this as dealing with something as huge as a gambling addiction is such a hurdle to overcome...and you're doing it!!! :j
Don't be too disheartened about HBOS though...but I do suggest you get copies of you credit reports from Experian (main bods), Equifax and Callcredit - and in that order. You may be surprised by what you read as if there's anything you disagree with, you can ask them to 'remove it'. Best to go for the £2 option with Experian as it seems a lot of people have had problems with cancelling the 'free trial'. It's also imperative that you're on the elctoral roll when applying for credit...so if you're not, phone your local council pronto!0 -
Everytime you think about gambling you need to think about all the terrible things it has done to you eg. the sick feeling you get afterward, how you never win the money back etc so that you associate gambling with negative associations rather than positive ones. It worked for me giving up heavy smoking after 20 years. It might also help to find something constructive to substitute, eg. go to the gym, whatever "healthy" thing you could become engrossed in. Also give all your cards etc. to your wife and she can give you a small amt of money every now and again. Or she can put it in an account once a week for you to spend.0
