Which is better return Unti Trust or shares

Hi All,

I hope you all have a happy and rewarding new year.

Quick question, I have about 30k to invest for a period of 3 years, which is better.

1/ Unit Trusts - I already have a few (about 20k) and the returns have generally been good. I pick the funds myself without any guidance. :):)

2/ or Shares - I have no knowledge and would be completely in the 'dark'. >:(

If anyone could suggest, I would be very grateful

Many thanks :D

Shares - more research more monitoring but greater 'potential' return

    What about investment trusts ?

Unit trusts may be bought by instalments since the charges on them should be 'pro rata' wheras shares are generally looked on as 'one off' items. Only a 'brave' investor will confidently buy all their shares in a single company at a single price. So you need a strategy to diversify. Invesment companies [like ITs] should provide you with this theoretically just as unit trusts can.

And what about 'I shares'? [Don't know anything about them except they avoid stamp duty and are supposed to track closely a share index]
