There's absolutely nothing about this on NatWest web site -I've just been reissued with a Maestro card!
You clearly missed the terms and conditions recently sent out about a month and a bit ago ;)
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009

For the past couple of years many banks have started the process of migrating from Mastercard Debit cards (branded as Maestro) to VISA as a better deal was offered.
When it comes to credit cards I think the opposite is happening with switches from VISA to Mastercard.

From what I gather the brand name Maestro wil eventually disappear in the UK and be replaced with the Mastercard brand on the remaining debit cards in the future.

Similar here...my 3yr old Solo card stopped working about a week ago...new card that came a couple of days ago was Maestro.

(Don't think I've ever had a card that has actually reached its expiry date without being replaced for one reason or another)

"Every Natwest and Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) debit card holder is set to have their Maestro, Solo or Cirrus plastic replaced by a Visa card over the next few weeks"

very Natwest and Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) debit card holder is set to have their Maestro, Solo or Cirrus plastic replaced by a Visa card over the next few weeks"

Guy, I have emailed earlier this morning, can you confirm that every customer is having their card replaced in the next few weeks rather than when their card comes up for renewal that it will be replaced by VISA. The forums here seemed to indicate that it was not every single card in one go but a phased stage, ie that new accounts will now get VISA, replacement cards(either lost or stolen) would get VISA and renewals would get VISA when their card expired and a new one was sent out.
I would appreciate a clarification, thanks.

It wouldnt be possible for every customer to get a new card over a few week time span not even with an exclerated re-issue.

They are not being issued until 15th September, if you order a card before this date you will get a maestro card.

I called up RBS a few days back when I first heard about this switch-over and requested a visa debit. I received it today.

Both VISA and Mastercard are owned by a group of banks.

They are both listed companies so they are owned by shareholders. Anyone can become a shareholder by buying their shares, not just the banks.
  • I don't know wether i am right, no doubt you will tell me, but i understood that the Nat-West maestro was the only debit card that stopped recurring payments being taken from my account, should i be unlucky enough to purchase goods or a service that would then instigate this method.
If this is so, then i would like to be given the option to decide, or is that being naive:rolleyes:
