Hi, I originally posted this on the I want it board but didnt get any replies so I thought here might be better, apologies if this isnt allowed,

Can anyone reccomend me a good digital camera, I have been using a cannon powershot s70 for the las few years and have been very pleased with it but the lcd screen has broken, Would like a camera with good zoom, fairly decent megapixels but dont need huge pics (print to about A4 size mainly), budget around £100-150 but very happy to spend less ;)
thanks

  • Which magazine were recommending the Canon IXUS 90 at one time. I've got the IXUS 85 but I'm not recommending it. My friend uses the IXUS 40 - out of date I know, but still a lovely camera. I wish I had got that one. I usually get my cameras from the Canon outlet on ebay.

My other friends are using Fuji and seem really pleased with their cameras.

I suppose you should list what you want to use the camera for if you want some more recommendations.
    :j I hope my comment helps :T

I really dont do anything amazing with the camera, mostly family photos, school plays, days out and holiday at the beach type thing. quite like a good zoom so can take pictures in the distance (eg children running\playing on the beach), print to around A4 size to put up pictures in frame at home,
  • well I've had the pleasure of using a Samsung NV3 , and it's a great little camera, especially now that you can pick them up for not a lot over a hundred :)
would thoroughly recommend for a well built, quality point and click compact ;)

Have just bought a Canon Ixus 100 IS (very slightly above your budget: £155 on Amazon). Seems very good and does HD video clips. A really nice little camera.

It doesn't have a huge zoom though - only 3x optical - which might be a problem for you.

Casio exilim's are good... I have had 4 now, upgrading every couple of years.

I have had an Olympus M700 for a couple of years, been dropped a couple of times but as it has a metal case, little external damage and still works well. The main reason I bought it was it is splash proof and VERY thin, easily fits into a shirt pocket.

Read the other recent threads on this subject, you can't beat the Canon the Panasonic is a great contender, but for quality and pictures, the others can't compete.

If you want small the Canon Ixus really are miniature, but with the same tech as their larger counterparts.
