Boiler needs repair, Advice please

I am renting a flat, I advised my Landlord, that the boiler has stopped working. Well it works but has to be turned on manually when ever we need hot water, as it does not kick in automatically anymore. This occurred about 4 months ago so it has been fine as it has been warm, although annoying having to turn it on and off whenever we need a shower or do the washing-up.

My Landlord stated could not really afford to get fixed at the time but would get it done in a few months, this has never happened. Now as winter is around the corner, I need this to be fixed so we can have the heating on timer as this is a cold flat (old). We have already spent our own money getting draftproofing, to help save gas bills as it was just being wasted.

I am going to write a letter to my Landlord asking for the boiler to be fixed as previously promised.

I was wandering if anyone can offer advice on our rights, before anyone says move, we can't afford to at the moment, and we shouldn't have to anyway.

Thank you for reading this.

Yes, the boiler was 'serviced' about 2 months before the breakdown.

you may not find this palatable but the LL is fulfilling his legal duty to provide you with hot water - even tho the timer does not work. if it has been serviced and you have a safety certificate he has done all he need do legally.

i also live in a property where i switch the heating/water on as and when i need it.
