This following happened only once to me. I sent an error report and moments later a help file opened on my machine detailing how to fix the problem.Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0

I presume they do some kind of aggregate data anlaysis, then get their tech bods to look at the most common problems.
You can turn it off (in Windows XP at least) by disabling the Error Reporting Service. Go to Start / Run and type "services.msc" (without the quotation marks). From there, find the relevant service in the list, stop it (if it's already running), then change the "startup type" to "disabled" (you can find this by right-clicking and choosing "Properties").0 -
There isn't a lot of point in providing that information to Microsoft as XP is in 'Extended support' - so will only be getting security updates every month. This is not the same as developing or fixing their OS.
(Sometimes you do get useful feedback from sending this info - but mostly it's general info like telling you that you have a driver problem. Handy to know when you don't know which of the many drivers is causing the problem).0
