MP3 vs Ipod

Hi all - I've got songs saved on iTunes from when I had my shuffle - can I use any MP3 player with iTunes or does it have to be an Apple appliance?? I 've seen some MP3 for £15-£20 compared to iPods for £45-£70 !!

TIA

Your tracks will be saved in a folder somewhere. If they're encoded as mp3 then you should be able to load them onto any mp3 player.

If they're in an Apple proprietary format, e.g. M4P / AAC, it'll be more tricky. You can get applications that wil recode them to mp3, though.

Assuming whatever mp3 player you purchase supports whatever files you have, and you get an mp3 player that allows "drag and drop", you should just be able to open up your mp3 player, and drag tracks from iTunes into it. iTunes will then copy the tracks onto it for you.

AAC/mp4 is not a proprietary Apple format.

Yeah so much Trash on the net people think AAC stands for Apple Audio Codex when its nothing of the sort. Apple uses AAC as it is the next step up from MP3 encoding. which kinda fits with their better features and tech than other brands. Well used to be before peeps start attacking me with X series or such

You can convert your tracks to MP3 versions within iTunes.

Highlight the tracks you want to convert, right click and use the 'Create MP3 Version' option.
  • So the general answer would be yes - I can buy a cheaper version of an mp3 player and still use songs saved on iTunes.

    Thanks guys

Yes you can use the songs, but it won't sync with iTunes like an iPod.
