Fitting garage door

Hi All,
I am thinking about fitting a new garage door, Has anyone done this? How hard is it?
I have some DIY skills so will this be enough?
Also, I have seen a garage door for sale in B+Q with electric opener for £388. Has anyone got one of these? Is it a good deal?
So many questions
Thanks
Mike

I saw the door at a B+Q warehouse and they were covered in packaging so couldn't see quality etc.

Fitting a garage door can be quite daunting for a basic DIYer. You may get the door fitted but it can be a stinker to get the springs tensioned properly or tracks to run evenly depending on type of door.
Roller doors as opposed to up and over doors and far far easier to hang as you simply fit 2 L shaped brackets at top of each side of door and `hang` the door on them with sides fitting into guides. These are also very secure and elecric openers are readily available.
By far the easiest garage door I`ve ever fitted was a Hormann up and over door which came pre-hung in a steel frame . Unlike other doors which may come with a frame that you need to assemble the Hormann door had the frame pre fitted and the springs were pre tensioned . This simply meant that all you have to do is place door in opening and , after making sure that it is plumb , fix frame directly to blockwork .
45 minutes later a high quality German manufactured door in fully working order .EASY PEASY LEMON SQUEEZY
An electric opener can be added at any time and the screwfix is one of the best value around . You will NOT beat it for price or quality . You also get all the little extras to make life easier such as bell push release and extra remote from memoryI`m now officially too old to die young0 -
Thanks for your reply Hairy Builder.
I was in a hurry the first time I was in B + Q so didn't manage to get many details, but I have been back.
The Door they have in at £388 is made by Wayne Dalton (American company I think) and is the 7066 version. It comes pre assembled in a frame so shouldn't be too difficult to fit and includes an Idrive opening mechanism.
I reckon this is good value so am probably going to get this one but would love to hear from anyone who has bought this door to see if they are happy with it or not.
Cheers

One important thing to remember is that £388 may sound cheap for a garage door but you are into the realms of DIY on a product that can be very temperamental, if your door gets stuck you don't get your car out! Like any other product there are reasons why some are cheap and others expensive, a garage door is something you won't expect to replace for a long time but will expect to use it frequently, so I'd suggest getting a specialist to advise you. If you have a local company supply and fit it may be more expensive but they'll support the product and be able to get spares and replacement parts.
As hairybuilder says the Hormann doors are excellent, I prefer roller doors too, you can pull right up to them and open the door without bashing the front of your vehicle with the door, perfect if space is an issue.
You don't say where you are but if you use the DHF website (Doors and Hardware Federation) there should be a decent company near you, most (if not all) will be able to offer a price and advice without obligation,0
