How do I clean burn marks off an espresso coffee maker [stove type]?

I have this very same espresso coffee maker and today I left it on the heat for longer than expected. Due to this the bottom half has now turned a slight brown colour [it looks more brass coloured than silver] and has burn marks from where the coffee has trickled out. Does anyone know how I can go about getting this cleaned back to its original finish or close to it?

Thanks

  • I understand now why my espresso coffee maker has become discoloured; it was boiled dry and overheated causing the espresso coffee maker to discolour - I was doing something else while the coffee maker was on the stove.

There's probably nothing I can do about it but if anyone does have any tips for getting it back to its normal finish then I'd be very grateful.

I tried posting a comment on How Clean Is Your House as well but gave up on that as it didn't seem to acknowledge my post for some reason.

    Oh well, thanks anyway.

Is this a stainless steel one? You could try rubbing it with a little baby oil, which is good to help buff up the finish on stainless steel. I have an aluminium version, and once put it on the stove having forgotten to put water in. I let it boil for ages because I was listening for the bubbling sound, which obviously didn't happen, and then the handle fell off! It's taught me to be patient and wait by it until it's done.

Have you tried barkeepers friend, its a very good remover. Sainsburys sells it, it doesn't scratch and it cleans all sorts of things including upvc http://www.ciao.co.uk/Reviews/Bar_Keepers_Friend__5191978

Yes it’s definitely Stainless steel. Funny thing was I was thinking about baby oil today as I was cleaning my kitchen bin which I think is aluminium, it came up nice and clean afterwards though.

Sorry to here about your coffee maker Adaline, what a disaster!

Just had a look to see how much Barkeepers Friend Metal Polish Cleaner in Sainsbury’s costs too and is selling for exactly the same price as Amazon, and not too expensive.
