How long can you freeze cookie dough for?

Hi, I'm thinking of making cookies for my family this Christmas and was just wondering how long you can keep cookie dough in the freezer. Thanks for any help.

as long as it is well wrapped and labelled I'm sure you should be able to keep it. Like stacey - mine hasn't lasted that long!! Mainly due to the children! Honest
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

  • As long as you like -nothing's going to happen to it if it is well-wrapped. As I keep saying food cannot go off in the freezer.

It might get freezer burn after a long while but for Christmas it should be fine.

    Choclate chip cookies
tried and tested, a bit too often really.

    200g soft butter (or marg)
125ml condensed milk (half a can)
    250g of plain flour
    1 teaspoon of baking powder
    300g of choc chips
cream butter and sugar, stir in condensed milk, fold in flour and baking powder, stir in chic chips

roll into balls (I find it is too sticky so just put spoonfulls on ) about 24
    put on lightly greased tin.
Gas mark 4 for 15 mins till lightly golden not brown. Leave on tin to cool and set before putting them on cooling tray.

My kids are always scrapping them off the tin and burning their mouths though.

These also work really well with gluten free flour if you are intolerant. I think the condensed milk sticks them together.

On economy gastronomy this week, Allegra rolled the cookie dough into a big sausage shape in clingfilm and froze it - then you can slice off cookies when you want them.

Well, normally about a week and then its... oh, sorry, I misunderstood your question. My book of Dairy Cooking says 6 months. Theoretically.

Thanks everyone, I can feel a cookie session coming on, but of course I'll have to taste, I mean test them all before I give any as presents:D.

  • I don't have a freezer (which is a pain!) and I realise it won't stay fresh for a long time in the fridge, but I was just wondering if it would be OK for a day or two in the fridge in a airtight container?
  • Buxton, does your recipe need sugar?
