Poss rat problem in our area..

Ok to cut a long story short we live on a newish estate which is very nice and clean.. tidy.. maintained etc BUT we have 1 moron neighbour who thinks for some strange reason he can put the remains of his dinner outside various houses where there are green areas..at first it just attracted loads of seagulls which was bad enough as we are fortunate not to get many up here but the last few days have been rats..one of the neighbours has been over as i am the neighbourhood co-ordinator and wanted something else and mentioned it to see if we had, had any to which i said we had found 2 in our garden which our cat must have caught..i am not obliged to do anything in terms of my position as such but am cross all the same and not sure who to contact before it gets worse off my own back?
Thanks

 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

What about the environmental dept at your local Council? That's what I'd try first. They should at least be able to advise you.
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)
  • Can you warn him he's trespassing if he's putting his scraps on other peoples front gardens?

Maybe catch him the next time you see him outside your own door?

By all means welcome every rat for miles around to his own back door but he shouldn't be doing something that invites them throughout your estate.

my ex's mother used to put scraps out in her garden (in a bowl) as she used to get badgers and hedgehogs!!!! my guess is, he thinks because there are green areas that there are going to be some hungry wildlife and doesnt realise what a problem he is making. have a friendly word with him but if he continues then get EH on it!

thanks i will ring the environmental dept and see what they have to say..tbh we have had 2 in the last few days which is not the end of the world i didnt think too much of it..cats=mice..rats etc but now i know he is dumping food more i am convinced it will escalate and i don't want it to.

The neighbour opposite said he had 3 the other night trying to get in his back door it makes me feel sick tbh. Just wondered how bad it has to be for them to do anything but will ring them on monday now and ask.

Hectors house the green bits are not infact anyones land as such just areas we have dotted around that are to make it look nice (which it does) but not when there is food dotted on it..have left a note for the neighbour who i know will be unaware as she works till so late she will not..edit has just been round lol was disgusted and said she will keep an eye out..long chat so have her onboard!

    Thanks

Even if the chap stops dumping food, the rats won't just go away on their own. And they're a nasty health hazard. I hope you can get the environmental people to help you pronto.
