Hi, as I am having problems with my ISP, I am considering moving to a broadband dongle to use with my laptop, which I use mainly at home. Does anyone have any advice on this subject please?.

Personally i wouldn't even consider it. I work away from home during the week and use one both at work and in the evenings. Generally speaking the Vodafone one i have is no match for a landline broadband service.
Don't get me wrong it is good, i can watch youtube etc without too much disruption. But it does depend where i am. In central London at work it's good, back in Surrey in the evenings not so much.
Why don't you just change ISP'S ?0 -
The fastest mobile bb is 3.5M/bs, compare that to your bog-standard 8mb/s home connection.
BTW, who is your isp?.Never Knowingly Understood.

You cant really take advantage of the 3.5mb bandwidth though (say if you have 2 pc's, I think "3" has a router one...)
And your signal strength will affect the speed
I pay £6.99 a month for a steady 5mb broadband (adsl) so you'll have to do better than that on a dongle0 -
Don't even think about getting a dongle over ADSL. I have tried the ones from t-mobile (7.2mb) and o2 (3.5mb), and both are dog slow compared with my 4mbs ADSL connection. Also they disconnect themselves quite frequently, unlike the ADSL. Though you can take the dongles out and about with you.0

Dongles are great for travelling only. Don't buy one for use at home only, unless you are a student without internet.
Vodafone pay as you go is great.
All of them do not even give you the speed they say. I am in an excellent area and can only get half a meg download.Motto: 'If you don't ask, you don't get!!'
