Avira updates today - problems?

Anybody else having problems getting Avira updates?

By the way, I'm finding the free Avira to be vastly superior to AVG. Picking up more stuff on virtually every computer, I put it on.

Oh and Nod32 seems to have a fairly large hole in it where a HijackThis log picked up some 200 names of banks (01s) where redirection was happening. THe pc in question also has a virus in it's MBR, which I haven't seen for a while.

All yesterday afternoon/evening it was asking me every 2-3 hours if I wanted to update and I was saying "yes", but 2-3 hours later it'd ask me again. I think it's fixed itself now as last time it did say Update was successful I think. So it might have stopped.

Vastly superior it may be but no Antivirus is 100% on the ball so if it's picking stuff up then there's a chance you're still infected/remnants of viruses can be left behind.

Slow updates is what you get for using free Avira... Like the built in adware, thats the price you pay

It's not the first time this has happened recently, but Avira does seem to be the best free anti-virus software at the moment. It's apparently due to their servers being 'under heavy load'.

When this happened to me a few weeks ago, I was able to download a package that enabled me to update from here:
(I'm new here and can't post links, so you can't click these)

If you are using Avira and are annoyed by the nag-screen when you update, have a look at this:

Well after several months of using Avira, last night was the first update 'slowness' I have experienced and which corrected itself today.

Whilst no AV program picks up all problems Avira did pick up one genuine problem for me that Avast (another zero cost option) had ignored for months.

I've had the built in nag screen disabled for a time now using the info from the previous post.

Well they do say on their website that if you pay of Avira - you will get fast updates.
