Dirty house

Hi everyone

tenants have moved out of my house, I've been round there working on it today.

There's a problem in the bathroom, loads of black stuff all round the bath and between the tiles, you know the stuff I mean?

I get a tiny bit in my flat occasionally.

I went to Topps Tiles to get some stuff for it, I bought some from there about a year ago, it was a spray, and when you sprayed it, it was really strong and bleachy smelling, and within a minute, no black stuff, superb product... Thing is, they don't sell it any more :-(

I wondered if anyone had any ideas, I can't even remember it's bloomin name.

I've been to B&Q and the supermarket but they just seem to have like mild mildew removing products, I bought one, but nothing happened, it was rubbish.

This other product was great.

Thanks for reading, hope to hear from you, kind regards
Alex

I've always just used Domestos applied neat with an old toothbrush. Leave for 10 mins and then rinse off with the shower head.

I had the same problem, tenants never seemed to open any windows! Most brands do a mould killer, I've used one from Mr Muscle which was good, Dettox do one too. Or mix thick bleach with bicarbonate of soda. Rub into problem areas with an old toothbrush, leave for a bit then rinse well. You may need several attempts if its very bad. The problem is once mould is there it will recur unless you really zap it. I had to reseal the bath as it had gone into the sealant & there's no way of getting that out.

You might also consider having an extractor fan fitted to keep the humidity levels down. One attached to the light works well. Oh & keeping back some of their deposit to cover your costs/time cleaning (assuming it's their fault of course!)

Hey thanks everyone for your help.
I got a great reply from the Landlord website I use:

<The stuff you are looking for is called HG Mould & Mildew remover. Ten times stronger than anything you'll find on the supermarket shelves - just hold your breath when you've sprayed it and leave the room quickly, closing the door on the way out :-) I've hunted all over for it each time it disappears from my regular stockist and the only place I can find that always has it is

Might be a bit more pricey but it does the job. Tenants are notorious for never airing a property - they think the mildew is a 'fault' of the property and nothing to do with their behaviour. I often leave them a bottle of the HG at the start of the tenancy (prevention is better, and cheaper, than cure) and this site has a good leaflet about condensation etc which you can give to your tenants to educate them.>

I've ordered from them, kind regards

White vinegar neat sprayed on should do the trick as well. I had some black tar like mankiness down the side of my cooker and it came off with a wipe with an old rag

My magic cure for mildew in the silicon seal is mould remover, or something, not sure of name, from Astonish. Again stocked by lakeland, but available much more cheaply from savers.

If you are interested in this stuff let me know, will check name. It was so good have lent it to a friend. Mould was IN silicon, applied once, very good, applied again and it has gone completely - amazing - hence I lent it to a friend.
